LOUIS "LOU" COVOTSOS, (Social History of Women and Children from the 19th Century to the Present). Lou and his wife, Daniele, moved to Melbourne in 2021 from northeastern Wisconsin to be closer to their daughter and her family. Lou and Daniele met as undergraduates at Hunter College, NYC. In 1970, the couple got married and relocated to Chicago where Lou pursued a masters and PH.D. in United States history at the University of Chicago. Lou landed a full-time job as a law librarian at the Cook County Law Library to support his growing family, which ultimately included his daughter and three sons.

Lou attended Dominican University for a master’s degree in library science, and then he enrolled in law school to “legitimize” his role as the head law librarian at a large Chicago-based law firm in 1980. After receiving his J.D. from Loyola University School of Law, Chicago in 1985, Lou continued at the law firm for a total of 30 years and rose through the ranks from head law librarian to executive director when he retired in 2010.  While at the law firm, Lou pursued his passion—teaching.  He taught at Loyola Law School for 25 years, again retiring from Loyola in 2010 as associate professor of law. During his retirement in Door County, Wisconsin, Lou, in addition to volunteer and elected governmental positions, taught numerous adult education classes, including social history and law for the non-lawyer.

Lou is most excited about and looking forward to joining the the Shepard’s Center family of adult learners.
